Installation Engineer – Competitive – London and surrounding areas

The Role

A leading supplier of medical gas pipelines is seeking an Installation Engineer to be responsible for the completion of medical gases pipeline installation, commissioning and testing.

The successful candidate will join a company that services and maintains a wide variety of medical gas plant and equipment within NHS and private hospitals in the UK, meaning that they will review all quotations and site information relating to the scheme of works prior to starting on-site.

The key responsibilities of an Installation Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Pre-installation survey: while survey work would normally have been carried out by others in preparing the quotation, the installation engineer is expected to familiarise themselves with the scheme proposals, the site and any operating constraints, limitations or site specific requirements before commencement of the work.
  • Job planning, job specific materials requisition.
  • Management and supervision of sub-ordinate staff, where applicable and where the job dictates.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of an Installation Engineer:

  • Previous practical experience in an installation environment where the quality, reliability and performance of the installed systems is of paramount importance.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience in medical gases pipeline systems, but training will be provided for those whose skill-set might not meet with our precise requirements and/or whose experience might have been gained in other industry settings. Typical examples of alternate experience might include:
    • Heating and ventilation
    • Refrigeration and air-conditioning;
    • Public utilities;
    • Science and laboratories;
    • Oil and gases installation;
    • Food processing;
    • Hospital engineering or;
    • Industrial plant installation.
    • NVQ Level 2 or above in a relevant subject(s) with portfolio of evidence to support assessment of competence in key skill areas.
    • Personal attributes: team player, good communication skills, accepts ownership and responsibility, takes pride in their appearance and takes an interest in how the completed installation performs in practice.
