Network Engineer – Competitive – Wichita, KS

The Role

Are you a telecom network engineer ready for a new challenge? Kansas Fiber Network, a leading provider of state-of-the-art telecom and IP services, has an opportunity for a Network Engineer to play an essential role in helping our company move forward and continue to be an industry leader.

The successful candidate will help design and maintain high bandwidth solutions for our carrier and government, enterprise, education and medical customers throughout Kansas and surrounding areas.

The key responsibilities of a Network Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Provision services on SONET, DWDM, and MPLS networks; Provision services for Direct Internet Access.
  • Perform testing and turn-up of new services; Ensure accuracy of service and network documentation.
  • Develop Method of Procedures (MOP) for maintenance activities; Execute MOPs during maintenance windows (1:00 – 5:00); Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Conduct proof of concept and software validation in the KsFiberNet lab 
  • Maintain network integrity; Monitor network alarms.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Network Engineer:

  • Associates or Technical Degree in Telecommunications, Networking, Computer Science or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ industry work experience, including experience in: IP and subnetting, Layer 2 networking and fault isolation in complex networks.
  • CCNA certification desired, Previous NOC experience with break-fix responsibilities a plus.
  • Knowledge of full suite of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Qualified candidates will live in the US, preferably a reasonable commute distance from Wichita, and will have authorization to work for any employer indefinitely without visa sponsorship.
