The Role

Avcon Engineering, a full service engineering firm specializing in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and fire alarm design, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to manage and coordinate projects with multiple MEP disciplines for scheduling and design.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the design and engineering of HVAC systems for commercial, residential and retail type of projects.

The key responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Performing design calculations such as cooling/heating load calculations.
  • Implementing detailed design for HVAC systems from concept to construction documents
  • Provide active role in project development and coordination
  • Review and processing of submittals, RFI’s, as well as representation during on-site construction coordination meetings

The Person

The key skills and qualities of a Mechanical Engineer

  • 5-10 years’ prior experience in a similar role, with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Exceptional knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word), load calculation programs (Trane, Carrier, etc)
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and thermodynamic principles is required, and AutoCAD and Revit experience and proficiency is a must (2018 or later versions).
  • Knowledge of local NYC building codes, Energy Conservation Codes, and familiarity with ASHRAE Standards.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Experience and ability to oversee and supervise junior personnel.
