Practice Manager - Competitive Salary - Birmingham, B1 1TT (Hybrid)

The Role

Are you an experienced operations professional with a knack for organisation and people management? Ready to take the lead in shaping the way a creative landscape architectural design studio runs and thrives?

We’re looking for a Practice Manager to join our team and play a key role in helping us operate more efficiently, support our people, and continuously improve the way we work.

This is a strategic leadership role at the heart of the business. Reporting directly to the Directors, you will manage studio operations and support services, including HR, Quality Assurance, Health & Safety, and facilities. You’ll also lead the admin and communications teams, helping maintain high standards across all areas.

Your focus will be both immediate and long-term—ensuring smooth day-to-day running of the practice while helping drive and implement operational improvements that support our team of designers, ecologists, and planners.

If you’re ready to lead from the front and make a meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you – apply today to take the next step in your career.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Operations & Practice Management

  • Coordinate studio-wide resourcing, capacity, and workload planning.
  • Drive improvements across systems, workflows, and policies.
  • Manage QA procedures and internal audits.
  • Work closely with Directors and consultants on tenders, compliance, and strategic projects.

People & HR

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, staff reviews, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Maintain staff records, contracts, payroll changes, and training logs.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, Right to Work checks, and insurance requirements.

Admin & Studio Support

  • Lead admin and support teams, providing guidance and performance oversight.
  • Act as key contact for IT providers, software subscriptions, and equipment management.
  • Coordinate calendars, meetings, events, and internal comms.

Facilities & Compliance

  • Oversee day-to-day office operations and act as the liaison with landlords.
  • Manage Health & Safety, audits, training, and lone working procedures.
  • Organise office relocations and maintain contracts for suppliers and services.

The Person

  • 5+ years’ experience in practice operations or studio management
  • Strong people leadership and communication skills
  • Proactive, detail-focused, and solution-driven
  • Experience with tools like SharePoint, MS Teams, and similar systems
  • Comfortable managing a broad remit and juggling priorities
