The Role

Are you experienced in leading Catholic liturgical music? Can you guide a choir and support Mass with reverence and skill?

We are seeking a Catholic Musician for the Air Base Chapel at Joint Base Charleston, located in North Charleston. This part-time role (5 hours per week) offers an opportunity to enrich Sunday Mass through thoughtful, well-prepared musical leadership.

You will be responsible for coordinating, preparing, and performing music during Sunday Catholic Mass (09:00–10:30), as well as leading rehearsals. You’ll work closely with the Catholic Chaplain to ensure the music reflects the liturgical calendar and enhances the overall worship experience.

Position contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform music and provide accompaniment at weekly Catholic Mass
  • Lead choir rehearsals and direct volunteer choir members
  • Select liturgical music appropriate to each service and season
  • Maintain and set up equipment before and after rehearsals and Mass
  • Support the preparation of music for Holy Days and special services
  • Ensure the chapel is left tidy and all items stored properly after each use 

The Person

You’re ideal for this role if you:

  • Are familiar with Catholic liturgical music and Mass structure
  • Can read and perform music confidently
  • Have experience directing or accompanying choirs
  • Are reliable, organised, and work well independently
  • Communicate effectively with clergy, volunteers, and parishioners
