The Role

Are you committed to Catholic teaching and experienced in religious education? Can you lead and organize a thriving parish program with care and clarity?

We’re seeking a part-time Catholic Religious Education Coordinator to oversee and deliver faith formation activities at Joint Base Charleston, supporting both children and adults in their journey of faith. This role is for 4 hours per week, with additional services as required.

You’ll be responsible for planning, delivering, and coordinating the base’s Catholic religious education program, working closely with the Catholic chaplain and parish volunteers. You’ll also lead preparation for key sacraments and seasonal faith events.

This is a vital role supporting military families by fostering strong faith foundations in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Position contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and lead children’s religious education (CCD) and adult formation (RCIA)
  • Prepare candidates for sacraments including First Communion and Confirmation
  • Organize Bible study sessions and seasonal programs
  • Support and supervise volunteer catechists
  • Order appropriate educational materials and supplies
  • Attend monthly meetings with the Catholic chaplain to review program progress
  • Ensure all activities align with AMS guidance and Church teaching 

The Person

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Is a Catholic in good standing with the Church and familiar with its rites and teachings
  • Has experience in religious education and sacramental preparation
  • Is organized, proactive, and able to work independently
  • Can communicate well with chaplains, families, and volunteers
  • Understands military culture and is sensitive to the needs of service families
  • Has basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
