The Role

Are you a qualified Rabbi with a heart for serving military personnel? Would you like to bring Jewish spiritual care to a community that values your leadership?

We’re recruiting a Rabbi to provide Jewish services and pastoral care on an as-needed basis at the Naval Consolidated Brig (NCB), Joint Base Charleston. This is a part-time contract role for approximately 4 hours per week, with additional services around Jewish Holy Days.

You will be responsible for conducting worship services, offering Jewish education, and providing spiritual support to Jewish personnel and their families. You will also assist in organizing and leading observances of key Holy Days throughout the year.

This is a part-time, 1099 contract position.

Please note: Candidates selected for an interview will be required to provide supporting documents, such as degree certificates, transcripts, and professional certifications.

Position contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead weekly worship (typically Friday or Saturday)
  • Conduct High Holy Day services including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
  • Lead additional holiday observances (e.g., Hanukkah, Passover, Sukkot)
  • Provide pastoral support and bereavement services
  • Offer spiritual guidance and maintain confidentiality
  • Work closely with chaplains and staff to coordinate schedules 

The Person

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Be a Rabbi in good standing, endorsed by a DoD-recognized religious organization
  • Hold a Master of Divinity (or equivalent qualification)
  • Be able to lead Jewish worship and teach religious practices clearly
  • Understand and support the spiritual needs of military members
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be able to respond professionally and compassionately to a range of pastoral situations
