The Role

Are you passionate about providing nurturing care to children in need? Do you possess the empathy and skills required to guide and support young individuals through various challenges? If so, we invite you to consider joining our team as a Houseparent.

We are a Sand Springs based children’s home, seeking compassionate and caring Houseparents to join our empathetic team.

As a Houseparent, you'll serve as the primary caregiver for children residing on our campus, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development on a 24-hour basis. Working under the guidance of the Executive Director, you'll play a pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment that encourages growth and security for each child.

This is a live-in role with housing and utilities provided. Please note, all applicants must pass a drug screening and background check.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strive to know and understand each child, as an individual and as part of the group and maintain a nurturing relationship with the child.  This includes taking the initiative in forming the relationship and observing and recording patterns of behavior and relationship on the part of the child.
  • Be available to the child for emotional support, especially in times of crisis, such as discipline situations, school failures, peer problems, family upsets, and illness of the children or family members, etc.
  • Give guidance and encouragement to the child who does not relate easily to others and work closely with the Executive Director and social worker in dealing with exceptional problems or disturbed children.
  • Develop and maintain an accepting and understanding relationship with the child’s parents and relatives.  Be friendly, courteous and also businesslike.
  • Maintain, as nearly as possible, a happy, relaxed, comfortable atmosphere in the cottage.
  • Hold information about children and their families as a sacred trust to be shared only on a professional basis.
  • Encourage a positive attitude toward learning and encourage each child’s best effort.
  • Provide a regular time and place for study and see that children have the necessary books and supplies.
  • Be available to furnish as much assistance in school work as needed.
  • Advise the administration of any child who is having problems in school and assist in evaluating school progress.
  • Report any illness, injury, or other medical need to the administration.
  • Schedule, Transport, andPrepare the child for medical and dental appointments.

The Charity

Sand Springs Home was founded by Charles Page to be a place of love and security for children. He was committed to providing as home-like environment as possible and to seeing that his kids have every opportunity that other children had. With his motto of “Think Right”, he expected right behavior and actions. He believed that every child should grow up in an environment where they know they are loved have opportunities to laugh and play. He wanted the children to get a good education and good job skills for a successful future. Charles Page set an example for others in generosity and compassion, and his foresight causes his work to continue to touch the lives of children today.
