Catholic Services Provider - $25–$35 per hour, depending on experience - Philadelphia, PA 19106

Are you an ordained Catholic Priest, Deacon or Seminarian with recognized ministerial experience? Can you provide respectful Catholic services, religious instruction and pastoral support within a secure federal setting?

The role

The Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Catholic Services Provider to support the Catholic inmate community on a part-time, 1099 contractor basis.

Services will usually take place within the Chaplaincy Services Area and Chapel at FDC Philadelphia.

This contract is expected to run for up to four years. Sessions are one hour in length, with approximately 104 sessions expected across the year. The role is part-time, with around 9 hours per week and no more than 30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

You will provide Catholic services and religious support in line with institutional policies and Catholic teaching.

Key duties include:

  • Providing Mass, Catholic services and religious instruction
  • Offering Confession and Absolution upon request
  • Supporting Catholic holy days, beliefs and practices
  • Delivering faith-based studies and RCIA classes where required
  • Providing one-to-one pastoral counselling
  • Supporting annual retreats and sacramental services where appropriate
  • Preparing lesson outlines for review at least one week before each session
  • Working closely with Chaplaincy Services staff
  • Maintaining accurate records of sessions completed
  • Following all safety, custody and conduct requirements within the institution

The person

You will need to provide documentation showing that you:

  • Hold, at minimum, a master’s degree in Catholic Theology and Practice from an accredited Roman Catholic School of Theology
  • Hold a Catholic religious ordination certificate
  • Have at least 2 years of recognized Catholic ministerial experience as a functioning Catholic Priest, Deacon or Seminarian
  • Are in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church
  • Can grant, hold or obtain Religious Faculties from a recognized Catholic Bishop within the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
  • You must also be willing to complete all required security checks, including fingerprinting, background checks, employer checks and urinalysis.
