If you are seeking an opportunity as an Assistant QS / Quantity Surveyor, who is looking for variety and technically challenging projects in infrastructure, particularly Rail, this role is for you.
A bit about the role
We are looking for an Assistant QS / Quantity Surveyor to become a part of our team, based in our London office; working on and supporting project delivery across a variety of infrastructure sectors. The successful candidate will be interested in working in the Rail sector to deliver post contract cost management services in a Design & Build environment. Client-side experience would be advantageous however experience of Rail or relevant Highways or Major Civils, as Contractor or Consultant, is essential.
The role will involve supporting the NEC Project Management Team by undertaking Contract Administration and Quantity Surveying duties, so a developing skillset and experience in client-facing and contractor communication are essential. The successful applicant will become part of a of a client-side team, supporting the delivery of a major project, and will be supported where required from the Senior Quantity Surveyor, Project Director and other team members.
Your skills and experience
We’re looking for someone with the following skills and experience to join our team:
- Quantity Surveying and Cost Management experience on major projects in the infrastructure sector, ideally Rail or alternatively relevant Highways or Major Civils experience
- An understanding of estimates, budgets, and feasibility studies
- An understanding of procurement, tender analysis, and contract award processes
- Experience in managing or supporting post-tender activities including variations, Compensation Events (NEC), and final accounts (depending on scale of contract)
- Experience in producing or supporting the production of Cost Variance Reports, forecasts, and managing the Contractor invoicing processes (depending on scale of contract)
- Experience in managing or supporting the management of Contractor/Sub-Contractor accounts and supplier procurement (depending on scale of contract)
- Experience of site working including contractor meetings and supporting project management teams commercially
- An understanding of compliance processes for Health & Safety, company policies, and contractual obligations
- Experience of supporting senior colleagues in maintaining strong client, contractor and collaborator relationships and supporting business development through exhibiting client focused positive behaviours.
What will you have?
- Growing Quantity Surveying experience
- Contract knowledge; knowledge of NEC contracts is desirable
- Experience of managing, or supporting the management of, contracts in an onsite Main Works Contractor environment (depending on scale of contract)
- Commercially aware with excellent reporting and communication skills
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent)
- Working towards RICS membership
- The successful candidate will be expected to work on site c50% of the time in the St Albans Area for first 2 years of their employment, with opportunities for growth to support other projects regionally and nationally.
