Roman Catholic Director of Religious Education - $18.00- $22.00 per hour (working 20 hours per week)– Commander Fleet Activities, Sasebo (CFAS) - Nagasaki, Japan

The Role

Do you have experience guiding children in faith, learning and character development? Are you confident organising engaging programmes that help young people grow spiritually while building strong community links?

We are seeking a Roman Catholic Director of Religious Education to lead and organise children’s faith formation activities at Commander Fleet Activities, Sasebo (CFAS). This is a rewarding opportunity to shape meaningful programmes, work closely with families and chaplaincy staff, and make a lasting difference in the lives of young people.

As Roman Catholic Director of Religious Education, you will plan, deliver and manage a structured Roman Catholic education programme for pre-school and elementary-aged children. You will oversee weekly sessions, special events and volunteer support, ensuring activities are safe, welcoming and well organised.

This is a non-personal services contract running from 01 March 2026 to 28 February 2027, based on site at CFAS in Nagasaki, Japan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organise and lead mid-week and Sunday religious education sessions (minimum 40 annually)
  • Deliver age-appropriate Bible study and faith development activities
  • Plan and run four seasonal or holiday events each year
  • Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers
  • Maintain attendance records, rosters and programme materials
  • Prepare monthly, annual and after-action reports
  • Schedule facilities and arrange supplies and equipment
  • Promote activities through notices, flyers and community channels
  • Build positive relationships with chaplains, schools and local agencies

The Person:

We’re looking for a Roman Catholic Director of Religious Education who is organised, approachable and confident working with children.

You will have:

  • An undergraduate degree
  • Experience in children’s ministry or religious education
  • A Pastor’s or Chaplain’s recommendation
  • Strong administration and IT skills (Word and email)
  • Comfort working in a multi-faith setting
  • A professional manner and neat appearance
  • Willingness to be active within the chapel community
