The Opportunity

We are hiring an Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This is a hands-on leadership role that works closely with project teams and senior leadership to ensure timely, accurate financial information and strong financial governance.

Compensation

$85,000 - $95,000 base salary (CAD), plus benefits and a performance-based bonus opportunity.

  • Lead monthly close, financial statements (ASPE), and variance analysis (WIP/project reporting where applicable)
  • Oversee AP/AR, payroll coordination, bank reconciliations, and general ledger integrity
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures
  • Support annual audit/review engagement and liaison with external accountants
  • Lead the annual budget preparation and forecasting
  • Ensure tax filings and remittances are completed accurately and on time (HST, PST, Corporate Income Tax, etc.)
  • Coach and develop the accounting team; set clear expectations and accountability
  • Partner with operations/project leadership on forecasting, cost controls, and financial discipline
  • Support systems improvement (ERP/accounting tools, reporting automation, process standardization)

Qualifications

  • CPA designation strongly preferred
  • 5+ years progressive accounting/finance experience, including people leadership
  • Proficient in financial reporting and month-end close capability
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in construction/real estate/project-based environments is a strong asset (WIP is a plus)
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to communicate clearly with non-finance leaders
  • Advanced Excel; experience with accounting/ERP systems including Sage 300 CRE and Procore
