The Role

As a Project Engineer I - Sustainability, you will be working on capital construction, modernization, and sustainability projects under the BuildLACCD Bond Program. This role is exclusively tied to bond-eligible activities such as planning, design, construction, and commissioning, ensuring all work complies with the program’s requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and engineering support to Project Managers and Construction Managers.
  • Coordinate with the Architect for timely responses to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Maintain and distribute current contract plans and specifications.
  • Confirm that contractors are maintaining record drawings before processing monthly progress payments.
  • Conduct field checks to ensure compliance with job specifications, plans, and DSA requirements.
  • Document construction progress through photographs, daily reports, and other required logs.
  • Track change orders, field orders, and approved change orders.
  • Review submittals for conformance to project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate and record meeting minutes with stakeholders.
  • Assist in reviewing submittal procedures, RFIs, and monthly invoices.

The Person

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A BS/BA Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.

  • At least 3 years of experience in project management or construction management for commercial or public sector projects with a value of over $15M.

  • Strong knowledge of the Division of the State Architect (DSA) construction/design process.

  • Experience using Building Information Modeling (BIM).

  • Familiarity with LEED-certified projects and/or Collaborative for High Performing Schools (CHPS) is a plus.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
