Assistant Athletic Trainer – Competitive Salary + Benefits – Ferrum, Virginia

The Role

Are you experienced in providing healthcare to student-athletes? Do you have the energy and focus to thrive in a dynamic collegiate sports environment?

Ferrum College is seeking a full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer to join our team. This 12-month position supports the Head Athletic Trainer and works closely with our 20 varsity teams. You will play a key part in ensuring the well-being of our student-athletes through preventative care, treatment, and rehabilitation.

You will also be expected to uphold NCAA Division III and ODAC regulations, with a transition to Division II Conference Carolinas in Fall 2025. This role includes some travel and evening/weekend work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver daily healthcare to student-athletes
  • Support practice and game coverage for assigned teams (to be determined)
  • Maintain accurate medical records using appropriate software
  • Assist with treatment, rehabilitation, and referrals
  • Help manage athletic training room operations
  • Support supply inventory and budget tracking
  • Supervise student interns and work-study assistants
  • Participate in college committees and other assigned duties

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division III institution, is a proud member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).  We will be transiting from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to Division II Conference Carolinas in the fall of 2025.

The Person

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • BOC certified and eligible for Virginia Athletic Training Licensure
  • Current with Emergency Cardiac Care certification
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and athletic training software
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • A strong communicator who can collaborate across departments
  • Committed to supporting student-athletes in all aspects of their development
