We are a vibrant planning and heritage consultancy, with a range of high profile and exciting projects, looking to appoint a knowledgeable and collaborative Heritage Associate to our growing team.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our consultancy, advising and taking the lead on a diverse range of large, complex and high quality heritage projects. You will be at the forefront of assessing the significance of heritage assets in the context of development proposals and the consequent impact on those assets and leading heritage reports and negotiations with local planning authorities, Historic England and Amenity Societies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on varied large and complex projects, advising on a range of built heritage considerations.
  • Produce concise, robust and accurate reporting including Heritage Appraisals, Assessments, Heritage Impact Statements for a diverse range of projects.
  • Actively contribute to and progress business development activities and client, Local Planning Authority and Historic England relationship management.

The Person

  • Relevant degree in a discipline such as archaeology, architecture, conservation of the historic environment, or architectural history.
  • 5 years’ experience.
  • IHBC historic and/or built environment conservation accreditations are desirable (i.e. IHBC Full or Associate member). 
  • Require a current and up to date Driving License.
  • Sound commercial judgement and a focus on finding solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.  You should be experienced in assessing significance and setting and have a detailed and robust understanding of the English planning system.
  • Demonstrable experience of applying relevant legislation, national and local planning policy and guidance for the historic environment.  Ability to manage a varied workload and deliver exceptional client service within a fast-paced consultancy.
  • Experience of working in Oxford, would be advantageous.
  • Experience of providing expert witness evidence for appeals both written and as an expert witness
  • Ability to find solutions and collaborate with professional colleagues across a variety of construction disciplines.
