We are a close-knit, supportive team based in Edinburgh and Dalkeith, looking for a Payroll Manager to oversee our end-to-end payroll services.

You will be responsible for managing all aspects of our payroll service. This includes working closely with clients, team members and external bodies such as HMRC. You will ensure everything runs smoothly – from monthly processing to legislation updates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full payroll process from start to finish, ensuring compliance with legislation and deadlines.
  • Work with business owners, HMRC, and external agencies to resolve queries.
  • Process new starters, leavers, and salary adjustments.
  • Calculate and process maternity pay, income tax, holiday pay, and sickness pay.
  • Maintain accurate manual and digital payroll records.
  • Provide clear and professional advice on payroll matters to colleagues and clients.
  • Ensure prompt and accurate processing, payments, reporting, and record keeping.
  • Stay up to date with payroll legislation and software developments.

The Person

  • At least 4 years’ payroll experience in an office environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll software (BrightPay, Sage).
  • In-depth understanding of PAYE legislation.
  • Experience with auto-enrolment and pension schemes (Smart Pensions, Nest, People’s Pension).
  • Previous experience in an accountancy practice managing your own client portfolio.
