Join the Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) as a Water Quality Operator Trainee and play a vital role in maintaining and enhancing one of the most advanced water recycling facilities in the United States.

You will be trained to work in one section of the facility, such as:

  • Liquid Team: SRF and Conventional Treatment, Chemical Treatment, AWT Physical Treatment, Activated Carbon Regeneration Furnace
  • Solids Team: Presses and Trucks, Centrifuge, Dryer Field, Dryer Driver, Carbon Regeneration Furnace

This is a fixed-shift, full-time role. New hires rotate through all shifts during the first 6 months, after which a permanent shift is assigned based on plant needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor treatment equipment (e.g., pumps, motors, rake arms).
  • Use process equipment within your assigned section.
  • Collect and test water samples for lab analysis.
  • Perform routine cleaning and maintenance tasks.
  • Record data in logbooks and complete maintenance work order requests.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment.

The Person

  • Completion of high school or a GED program, preferably including basic mathematics and science courses. A two-year degree program in mathematics or science is desirable; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Possession of a vehicle operator's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
  • Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position, including extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in Permit Required Confined Spaces and to become Confined Space Entry certified.
