The Role

Are you an experienced chef who enjoys creating quality food in a fast-paced, people-focused environment? Do you thrive when leading a team and delivering excellent results without compromising on flavor or presentation?

We’re looking for a skilled Café Chef to join our team during daytime hours. Reporting to the Café General Manager, you’ll lead the kitchen in preparing delicious, fresh food that keeps our customers coming back.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong leadership, great organization, and attention to detail. You’ll work closely with a team of chefs and stewards, helping to deliver a smooth and efficient kitchen operation every day.

This is a full-time post. Attendance will be required in line with the business requirements, including at weekends, holidays and in the early mornings as well as evenings, based on rotating scheduling

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily kitchen operations and delegate tasks effectively
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control
  • Ensure all dishes are prepared according to recipes and service guidelines
  • Monitor stock levels and support with ordering and deliveries
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety procedures at all times
  • Contribute to menu planning and support with stock audits
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and equipment according to schedules
  • Collaborate with the wider team to deliver excellent service
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned. The employee is expected to work in other areas of the operation when needed to assist operations to perform job duties not necessarily contained in this job description

The Person

We’re looking for someone with:

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a Café Chef or 4 years as a Sous Chef in a busy kitchen
  • Valid California Food Handlers Card & Manager ServeSafe Certified.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • A calm, solutions-focused approach under pressure
  • Experience developing menus and managing high-volume service
  • A team mindset, willing to support others and lead by example
  • Food Handler and ServeSafe Manager Certification (required)
  • Good physical fitness (able to lift, move, and stand for long periods)
  • Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and public holidays as scheduled
