The Role

Do you have the musical skills and experience to lead a congregation in worship? Are you able to organize and direct a choir or praise team while playing the piano or acoustic guitar?

We are looking for a Music Director to lead the music program for the Protestant Service at Robins Air Force Base Chapel. This role involves playing, training, scheduling, and preparing music for worship services, rehearsals, and special events.

This is a part-time, 1099 contract position for 2-3 hours per week over a 5-year contract term.

Position contingent upon contract award.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the music for Protestant worship services, including weekly services, rehearsals, and special events.
  • Play the piano (acoustic or electric) and/or acoustic guitar to accompany worship.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the choir or praise team.
  • Lead the congregation in singing during services.
  • Ensure a high-quality, inclusive worship experience.
  • Provide music leadership for at least one rehearsal and one worship service per week.
  • Work closely with the Protestant Chaplain to coordinate music selections and schedules.
  • Direct the praise team/choir and encourage participation from volunteers.
  • Perform music in a range of styles, including gospel, traditional, and contemporary worship music.
  • Maintain and return all government-owned music scores and equipment after use.
  • Attend relevant meetings related to the music program.
  • Ensure all copyright laws are followed when using music materials.
  • Arrive at least 60 minutes before services and 30 minutes before rehearsals.

The Person

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has at least three years of college in music (or equivalent experience in playing piano/acoustic guitar in a church setting).
  • Can confidently play the piano (acoustic or electric) and/or acoustic guitar.
  • Is able to lead and vocally guide the congregation in worship.
  • Has experience in directing a choir or praise team.
  • Can sight-read, arrange, and adapt music for services.
  • Works well with volunteers, lay leaders, and chapel staff.
  • Is fluent in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
