Catholic Religious Education Coordinator - $20 per hour, commensurate with experience - Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota

Do you enjoy helping children and families grow in their Catholic faith? Are you an organized, confirmed Catholic with experience in religious education and catechesis?

The role

We are looking for a Catholic Religious Education Coordinator to support the Catholic Community at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota.

This is a part-time 1099 contract position working 27.75 hours per week.

In this role, you will help coordinate Catholic religious education programs for children, youth, families, and volunteers. You will work closely with the Catholic Chaplain, priest, or designee to make sure programs are well planned, welcoming, safe, and aligned with approved Catholic curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Coordinate Catholic religious education for Children’s Church, Pre-K through 8th grade, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation
  • Help organize classes, events, and summer religious education activities
  • Recruit and support volunteer teachers, substitutes, and other program helpers
  • Help start background check processes for volunteers working with minors
  • Train volunteers on teaching expectations, safety procedures, and local requirements
  • Keep classrooms, books, supplies, and materials organized and ready for use
  • Work with Chapel Staff to schedule Catholic religious education events
  • Maintain participant and volunteer records
  • Submit required reports and monthly volunteer lists to the Catholic Priest
  • Attend Catholic Parish Advisory Council meetings and contractor staff meetings
  • Support an annual volunteer appreciation activity
  • Follow all federal, state, local, Air Force, and installation requirements

The person

We are looking for someone who is dependable, welcoming, and comfortable working with children, families, volunteers, clergy, and chapel staff.

You must:

  • Be a practicing Catholic who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation
  • Hold a valid Catechist Certificate issued by the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree
  • Have experience in Catholic theology and catechesis
  • Be able to complete required background checks
  • Communicate clearly and professionally
  • Stay organized while managing classes, records, volunteers, and events
