The Role

Do you have experience delivering engaging ESOL courses to adult learners? Are you confident in planning and delivering lessons from pre-entry level up to Level 1? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic ESOL Tutor to join our growing team on a sessional basis. You will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality ESOL courses that support adult learners in developing their English language skills.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging sessions tailored to curriculum goals and individual learner needs.
  • Assess learners, identify areas for improvement, and adapt teaching methods and materials accordingly.
  • Provide individual support through one-on-one sessions and additional resources.
  • Monitor learner progress, give constructive feedback, and address underperformance.
  • Set, mark, and provide feedback on assignments, tests, and exams.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, develop curriculum content, and attend meetings/training.
  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and confidence.

Administration

  • Identify and request teaching resources and equipment as needed.
  • Maintain accurate course files, attendance records, and achievement data.
  • Monitor learner attendance and take appropriate follow-up action.
  • Prepare learners for assessments (accredited and RARPA), mark work, and participate in moderation.
  • Provide feedback through documentation such as observation and IQA reports.

General

  • Comply with requests related to the adult learning programme.
  • Follow all Health & Safety regulations and risk assessment procedures.
  • Undertake relevant training and attend meetings as required, including tutor and staff meetings.

The Person

  • Hold a recognised teaching qualification such as CELTA, DELTA or TESOL or A full teaching qualification for working in adult learning (DTLLS, PGCE or DET).
  • A minimum GCSE English Grade C or equivalent if teaching ESOL/Literacy.
  • Proven successful track record of planning and delivering high quality teaching of accredited and non-accredited provision in a relevant subject and at appropriate level(s)
  • Experience of teaching adult learners of mixed abilities and an understanding of appropriate teaching strategies in a similar role.
  • Experience of devising course outlines and schemes of work.
  • Awareness of differentiation and a commitment to inclusivity in your teaching and professional conduct.
  • Experience of managing mixed groups of learners.
  • Experience of assessing and recording progress, both in accredited and non-accredited learning and supporting learners.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with a variety of exam boards.
  • Ability to provide sound support in offering information, advice and guidance to learners.
