What you will be doing

You will operate across Pre-Construction and Project Procurement, supporting the development and delivery of procurement strategies and engaging with the supply chain to support successful project outcomes.

This role goes beyond process-driven procurement and has a strong focus on cost interrogation and risk review. You will be expected to engage with technical and commercial detail, challenge information, and contribute to informed decision-making.

Working closely with Pre-Construction, Commercial, and Operations teams, you will support the validation of scope, interrogation of pricing, and identification of risks and opportunities prior to project award.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of procurement activities from early-stage engagement through to project award
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of procurement strategies aligned with programme and project objectives
  • Manage or support tender processes, including enquiry documentation, tender analysis, and negotiation
  • Review and analyse tender returns, ensuring robust comparison and alignment with project requirements
  • Assist in the validation of trade package scopes and quantities
  • Interrogate cost plans and supply chain pricing to identify inconsistencies, risks, and opportunities
  • Engage with the supply chain to test assumptions around cost, programme, and buildability
  • Support Pre-Construction activities, including those delivered under PCSA / two-stage procurement routes
  • Work collaboratively with estimating and commercial teams to ensure procurement outputs align with cost plans
  • Contribute to risk identification, tracking, and mitigation throughout Pre-Construction
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with supply chain partners
  • Participate in client meetings, design team meetings, and value engineering workshops
  • Support the transition from Pre-Construction into project delivery

What We’re Looking For

We are open to a range of backgrounds and experiences. You may currently be working in procurement, commercial, estimating, or Pre-Construction roles, or have relevant experience within the construction supply chain.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • A strong interest in working with numbers and cost data
  • A methodical and analytical approach, with the ability to interrogate detail rather than rely on headline figures
  • Experience of, or exposure to, cost planning, or tender analysis
  • An awareness of how risk is identified, assessed, and managed within projects
  • The confidence to challenge information and ask the right questions
  • An understanding of construction procurement routes (including two-stage or similar approaches)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with a range of stakeholders
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work across different teams

Experience in all areas is not essential; however, this role is best suited to individuals who are comfortable working with detail and taking a proactive role in understanding how projects are put together commercially.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in a construction, commercial, or related discipline (preferred but not essential)
  • Professional membership (e.g. CIPS, RICS) or working towards (desirable)
