We are hiring a Delivery Systems Assistant Manager to join our forward-thinking team at the Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA).

In this role, you will support the Delivery Systems Section Manager in operating and maintaining pump stations, force mains, and gravity sewers. You will guide team members, handle equipment and oversee the day-to-day work that keeps our systems running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of Delivery Systems components.
  • Supervise operators, temporary hires, and technical staff as needed.
  • Operate and maintain portable tools, vehicles, and specialized equipment.
  • Support other teams across operations and treatment process sections.
  • Ensure safety and compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Interpret system drawings, specifications, and manuals.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve operating problems in the collection system.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate documentation.

The Person

  • Completion of high school or GED is required; a college or vocational degree program is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training will be considered. Relevant professional work experience may be substituted for minimum qualifications.
  • Extensive experience with wastewater collection system facilities and related equipment is highly desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern principles and practices of pumping station operations and corrective/preventive maintenance.
  • Thorough understanding of force mains, gravity sewers, manholes, and similar collection system facilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state regulations pertaining to wastewater conveyance.
  • Strong understanding of basic electrical and mechanical principles.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting collection system operating problems and implementing corrective actions.
  • Extensive awareness of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions related to collection system operations and maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret and work from drawings, specifications, equipment manuals, O&M manuals, and process schematics.
  • Ability to evaluate data and prepare concise reports and documentation.
  • Proficient in computer software programs, including Enterprise System Software (ERP), Wonderware, and Microsoft Office.
  • Certified in First Aid and CPR.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including extensive walking, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds.
  • Possession of a commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class B with an endorsement “N” (permitting operation of a tank vehicle) valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
