The Role

Are you an experienced financial aid leader with a strong eye for compliance and detail? Do you excel at developing strategies that support student success and access to higher education?

We’re looking for a Director of Financial Aid to join Ferrum College and lead the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of our financial aid function. This is a key role that influences recruitment, retention, and student experience across the institution.

You’ll oversee the financial aid department, including staff supervision, fund distribution, policy development, and interdepartmental collaboration. From managing federal and institutional aid to championing service excellence, this role demands leadership, precision, and a student-first approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direction and oversight of financial aid operations and staff
  • Allocate and manage federal, state, and institutional funds, including scholarships and veteran benefits
  • Analyze and implement financial aid policies in line with regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate services across campus units including Admissions and Student Accounts
  • Support recruitment and retention through data-driven financial aid modelling
  • Act as the College’s certifying official for veterans’ benefits
  • Ensure data accuracy and timely reporting for compliance
  • Manage the financial aid and endowment fund budgets
  • Represent Ferrum College at external events, conferences, and outreach programs

Ferrum College, an NCAA Division III institution, is a proud member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).  We will be transiting from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to Division II Conference Carolinas in the fall of 2025.

The Person

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
  • 5–10 years of experience in financial aid or a related financial/accounting role
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office; knowledge of financial aid systems like Ellucian Colleague is a plus
  • Understanding of NCAA Division II scholarship disbursement and veteran benefits is desirable
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong integrity and confidentiality
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments
